Restaurant reservations in Korea without a Korean phone number are possible at participating CATCHTABLE GLOBAL restaurants—but a reservation and a place in a queue are not the same thing. Before planning your evening around a restaurant, find out whether you can select a date and time, join a live waitlist, or register only after you arrive.
We checked the English website on September 29, 2026. Below are two real listings, the email-login screen and the point where our reservation check stopped. This was a logged-out browser check, not a restaurant visit or a completed booking.
Restaurant reservations in Korea: choose one of three routes
- You need a table on a particular evening: look for a dated reservation. Our example is l’Auberge in Seochon. A displayed time is not a confirmed table.
- You are nearby and can be flexible: check for a remote waitlist. London Bagel Museum Anguk displayed separate dine-in and takeaway queues. Neither is a timed dinner reservation.
- The listing offers only on-site waiting: go to the branch and ask how to register. The global service has a tablet-QR procedure, but it does not make every restaurant’s domestic kiosk compatible.
If you must leave for a train, show or airport transfer at a fixed time, a live queue is a poor anchor for the meal. Choose a confirmed booking with a suitable dining window, or a nearby walk-in alternative with no current wait.
Can you start without a Korean phone number?
The Korea Tourism Organization’s June 2026 guide says CATCHTABLE GLOBAL supports account creation without a Korean number and overseas-issued cards for reservation deposits. That describes the global service, not every Korean restaurant or reservation platform.
In our check of the global website, the account screen offered Google, LINE, Apple and email options. Choosing email opened an email-address field and a verification-code request button. There was no Korean-phone field at that first step.
What this check does not prove: we did not enter an address, receive a code or finish signing up. Do not interpret an accessible login screen as proof that every later booking or payment will succeed. Use an inbox you can access during the trip; the operator’s waitlist instructions also use email for turn alerts.
A dated booking: where the l’Auberge check stopped
We opened l’Auberge (오베르쥬), whose listing gives the address as 11, Jahamun-ro 5-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul. It displayed a reservation section with a date, time and guest selector. We chose October 1, 2026, two guests and 6 p.m. This was a test selection observed on September 29, not a promise that the slot remains available.
- Open the exact branch. Match its address before choosing the date and number of diners. Similar names are not interchangeable locations.
- Select an offered time. Our first selection produced a temporary error. After one retry, an app-handoff dialog appeared.
- Read the handoff. The dialog said “Better in the app” and offered “Later” or “Continue in App.” We dismissed it rather than making a booking.
- Only count a confirmed result. If you continue yourself, verify the restaurant, date, local time and party size on the final confirmation. A time button, app prompt or payment attempt alone is not that confirmation.
This is the important limitation for restaurant reservations in Korea: being able to browse times on the web does not establish that your booking can be completed there. Be prepared to follow the official app route when prompted. Our single logged-out test does not establish how every device, account or restaurant behaves.
A later arrival may not mean a later finishing time
l’Auberge’s restaurant information lists a first dinner sitting from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Saturdays and public holidays, with dining limits when fully booked. Its meal-session notice asks diners to respect the session’s ending time; extensions depend on the next sitting’s availability.
Planning example: if you book 6:30 p.m. within that first sitting and the limit applies, you may have only one hour—not two hours from your arrival. Ask about the finishing time before combining the meal with sightseeing. This is an implication of the published rule, not a report of a meal we ate there.
A live queue: London Bagel Museum Anguk
The Anguk branch listing showed a waitlist section with “Dine in,” “Takeout” and “Join Remote Waitlist.” Choose according to whether you want seating or food to take away; joining the takeaway queue is not a way to reserve a café table.
We did not press the join button or take a queue position. The useful finding is the separate queue choice, not a claimed successful registration. We have deliberately omitted the observed queue counts: they change, and the number of waiting parties is not a waiting time in minutes.
CATCHTABLE’s remote-waitlist help says an email alert is sent as your turn approaches. After you register, check that you actually received a queue position for the intended branch and keep access to your inbox. Ask the host how quickly you must return; do not plan a cross-city journey from a queue count alone.
At a tablet asking for a 010 number
On the service’s waitlist page, the on-site help illustrates scanning a QR code on the restaurant’s tablet, choosing a language and entering your details to register. This is the operator’s procedure; we did not test a physical restaurant tablet.
If the tablet only shows a Korean-number field, look for the QR or language route and ask staff whether that branch supports it. If it does not, ask whether the host can register you or let you wait nearby. Neither accommodation is guaranteed. Do not enter a made-up number or somebody else’s number.
- 한국 전화번호가 없어요. 현장에서 대기할 수 있나요?
I do not have a Korean phone number. Can I join the waitlist here? - 제 차례가 되면 어떻게 알려 주세요?
How will you tell me when it is my turn?
Show the sentence on your phone and confirm the answer before leaving the entrance. If no workable registration or notification method exists, choose another restaurant rather than assuming you are in the queue.
Deposits for restaurant reservations in Korea
l’Auberge’s public deposit notice allows different settlement outcomes: the prepaid amount may offset the meal bill or be returned, depending on the circumstances. Our check did not reach checkout, so we cannot verify a deposit amount, refund deadline or successful overseas-card transaction for this example.
For your own restaurant reservations in Korea, answer these three questions before paying:
- What is being charged? Check whether the displayed deposit is per person or for the whole party, and how it is settled against the meal.
- When can you cancel? Save the exact deadline, stated time zone and no-show terms. Changing your itinerary does not cancel the booking.
- Where is your confirmed booking? Keep the final reference and the restaurant’s Korean name. If the payment result is unclear, check your booking record or contact support before trying again.
An overseas card working for a reservation deposit does not prove it will work for every payment at the restaurant. If you later have a card problem, use our foreign-card troubleshooting guide. Confirm dietary requirements directly with the restaurant; our vegetarian, vegan and halal ordering guide covers questions a booking screen cannot answer.
If the online route does not work
A missing time or unavailable queue does not tell you whether walk-ins are accepted. Use the branch’s current contact details or ask your accommodation whether someone can call. Give them the branch, date, party size and latest acceptable finishing time—not just the restaurant name.
For a spontaneous meal, ask the host for a current estimate before committing. For a special occasion, prefer a written confirmation and an agreed dining window. Have a second option in the same neighborhood so a failed booking does not consume the evening in transport.
What was verified—and what was not
Checked September 29, 2026: the English global website’s initial email-login form; a date and party-size selection at l’Auberge followed by an app prompt; the Anguk branch’s two queue choices; and the operator’s on-site QR and email-alert instructions. The links above lead to the pages used.
Not tested: completed signup, app installation, a physical kiosk, queue enrolment, deposit payment, cancellation or dining. The two restaurants illustrate different access routes; they are not personal dining recommendations. Availability and conditions may change after this check.
